Instagram Reels Affiliate Links

If you've been keeping affiliate links confined to your bio, your Stories, or a link-in-bio tool, that's about to change. Instagram has announced that creators can now tag products directly inside Reels using affiliate links, turning every video into a shoppable moment.
This is a significant shift in how monetisation works on the platform, and it's worth understanding exactly what's changed and how to use it.
What's actually new in Instagram Reels
Until now, getting someone from a Reel to a product involved several steps: watch the content, visit the profile, find the bio link, navigate to the page, then locate the product. Every extra step creates friction, and friction kills conversions.
With this update, viewers can tap a tagged product directly inside your Reel and go straight to the brand's app or mobile website to buy. Your affiliate link travels with them. If they purchase, you earn.
You can tag up to 30 products per Reel, and those tags can include your own affiliate URLs.
How to use it
The feature sits inside the Share flow when you're uploading a Reel. Look for the "Add products" option, then choose one of two paths:
Paste your affiliate URL — drop in a direct product link, including your affiliate tracking link
Search a brand's catalogue — browse and tag products from brands already on Meta's commerce platform

One important thing to know: any product you tag needs to exist in a business's Meta commerce catalogue, so that inventory and pricing remain accurate. You'll be tagging verified individual items, not general collection pages or random URLs.
What this means for your monetisation strategy
The obvious win is more direct earning potential. But the more interesting shift is in how you think about Reels themselves.
Content that already naturally features products, a get-ready-with-me, a recipe walkthrough, a room tour, a styling video, can now close the purchase loop in the same moment someone's watching. A few things worth noting:
Authenticity scales faster. Affiliate marketing works because of trust. Your audience already makes purchasing decisions based on what they see you use. This update simply shortens the journey from discovery to purchase.
Tagged content surfaces in Partnership Ads Hub. Brands can see your tagged Reels and potentially boost them as partnership ads — increasing your reach without any extra effort on your end.
You're no longer dependent on bio links. Product tags inside Reels are native to the viewing experience. They don't pull viewers out of the app or interrupt the scroll. Less friction means a smoother path to purchase for your audience.
What's coming next
Instagram has indicated this is just the beginning. The next phase includes the ability to discover affiliate opportunities with brands like Amazon and Shopee directly inside the app — meaning you could find a programme, get your link, tag your Reel, and earn, all without leaving Instagram.
The "Add Products" feature in Reels is rolling out now in the US, Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, with plans to expand across all 22 Instagram commerce markets. If you don't see it yet, it's on its way.
