Instagram Plus Is Here, And It Could Change How You Use Stories
Meta is officially testing a paid subscription tier for Instagram called Instagram Plus, and if Stories are a big part of your content strategy, this is worth knowing about.
The subscription is currently being tested in Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines, but if it rolls out globally, it could change how creators show up, research competitors, and connect with their audiences. Here's everything you need to know.
What's included in Instagram Plus?
Almost every feature in the package is built around Stories, Instagram's highest-engagement format. Here's a breakdown of what subscribers get:

Anonymous Story viewing
Watch anyone's Stories without appearing in their viewer list. Think of it as quiet competitive research, you can see what others in your niche are posting without tipping them off.
Rewatch counts
See how many times your own Stories have been rewatched. If a Story keeps getting replayed, that's a strong signal it resonated. This goes beyond a simple view count and helps you understand what content is actually landing.
Unlimited audience lists
Right now, you can only share with everyone or a Close Friends list. Instagram Plus lets you create unlimited custom lists — so you could segment your most engaged followers, potential brand partners, local audiences, or superfans into different groups.
Story extensions
Extend any Story by an extra 24 hours with one tap. If a Story is driving clicks or DMs, you don't have to scramble to repost it before it disappears, you just extend it.
Story spotlights
Once a week, you can spotlight a Story to bring it to the front of the Stories tray for your followers. For smaller accounts trying to stay visible, this weekly visibility boost could make a real difference.
Story viewer search & Superlikes
Search your viewer list to see if a specific person has watched your Story — useful for tracking whether collaborators or key followers are seeing your content. You can also send an animated Superlike reaction on others' Stories.
Our Take...
The unlimited audience lists feature alone could be a game-changer for creators. Content segmentation is something most of us have been hacking together workarounds for. If this rolls out globally, it's worth thinking about how you'd use it to deepen connection with your most engaged followers, before everyone else catches on.
