Instagram Bio Ideas for Small Businesses (+ Copy-and-Paste Templates)
Your Instagram bio is the most important 150 characters your business will ever write.
When someone lands on your profile, they decide in seconds whether to follow, get in touch or scroll away. After years of auditing small business profiles, I can tell you the most common problem isn't the photos. It's a bio that doesn't say what the business does.
Here's how to fix yours, with templates you can copy today.
What every business bio needs
What you do. In plain words, not clever slogans.
Who it's for or where you work. "Glasgow & surrounding areas" is worth more than any inspirational quote.
Proof. Awards, years in business, reviews or qualifications.
A call to action. Tell people exactly what to do next.
A link. Your website, booking page or contact form.
Tartan Social tip: your name field is searchable on Instagram. Add a keyword to it, like "Sarah | Glasgow Lash Artist", so people searching for your service can find you.

Common bio mistakes
Being too clever. "Living the dream ✨" tells a new visitor nothing.
No location. Local customers want to know you work near them.
No call to action. Tell people whether to DM, book or call.
An outdated link. Check it works every month.
Too many emojis. One or two help. Ten make it hard to read.
Don't forget the rest of your profile
Profile photo: your logo, or your face if you're the brand.
Highlights: use them for reviews, services, prices and FAQs.
Pinned posts: pin your best post, a review and your offer to the top of your grid.

Frequently asked questions
How long can an Instagram bio be?
150 characters. That's why every word needs to work hard.
Should I put my prices in my bio?
A "from" price can help filter out time-wasters, but it's not essential. A clear call to action matters more.
How often should I update my bio?
Whenever something changes: a new offer, service or award. Check your link works at least once a month.
